The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has been accused of brutally beating a teenager named Shah Alam, 17, at the Betna border in Haripur upazila of the district while he was planting Boro paddy saplings on the land near the border.

After this incident, the BSF left the unconscious body inside the Bangladesh border thinking he was dead.

Habib, the camp commander of Betna BGB camp, confirmed that the incident took place on Tuesday noon near pillar number 367 of Betna border in Haripur upazila.

Mentioning that the BSF members of the Qualighar camp in India had carried out the brutal torture, he said that a letter had been sent to the BSF for organizing a flag meeting on the issue.

Injured Shah Alam Haripur is the son of Md Nazrul Islam of Manikkhari village under Haripur upazila. He is currently undergoing treatment at Haripur Upazila Health Complex.

The doctor on duty there said that he has been given treatment and that there are signs of different types of injuries on his body.

Nazrul Islam, the father of the injured teenager, said Shah Alam was planting Boro paddy saplings on his land near pillar number 367 of the border in the morning. Suddenly at noon, BSF members from the Qualighar camp came and picked him up.

They brutally tortured him near the border fence. When Shah Alam lost consciousness due to the torture, the BSF members left thinking he was dead.

He added: “When locals informed us, we all went to rescue my son and admitted him to the hospital.”

Local farmers, including Nazrul Islam, have demanded justice for Shah Alam’s brutal torture. They also demanded that their safety be ensured when they conduct cultivation work near the border.

Thakurgaon 50 BGB Captain Lt Colonel Shahidul Islam was contacted, but he did not receive the call.
